THE WEST COAST OF IBIZA
The west coast of the island of Ibiza is divided into two of the five municipalities into which the island is divided. On the one hand, there is Sant Antoni de Portmany, the second most populated town of Ibiza. To learn more about Sant Antoni and its tourist attractions read our article.
On the other hand is Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, the name of this small town refers to the highest mountain on the island: Sa Talaia, which belongs to this population. In addition, it is the largest municipality of Ibiza.
These municipalities, and therefore its coast, have a lot to offer. To begin with, it is here from where you can see the best sunsets that exist, dyeing every beach and cliff golden.
You can also find different coves and beaches. Some are well known by tourists and others are quieter, away from the tourist hustle and bustle. The beaches that you can find are:
IN THE NORTHWEST
- Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta. These beaches are located northwest of the coast are characterized by being surrounded by pine trees, sandy bottom and crystal clear water. It is worth mentioning that they can only be accessed by motorcycle or by bus from San Antonio or Can Coix. It is due to its environmental conservation and concentration of tourists that has limited the entry of cars at certain times of the day.
- Punta Galera. It is an old stone quarry, which has been left in the form of steps or terraces allowing swimmers to relax on the flat stones next to the clear water and the great marine life of this place.
- Cala Gració and Cala Gracioneta. Located north of the town of Sant Antoni de Portmany, these beaches represent the Mediterranean coves with clear waters and rocks. They also allow to visualize the island of La Conejera on the horizon. The proximity to the municipality allows access on foot.
IN THE SOUTHWEST
- Port des Torrent. This beach receives its name because it was formed at the mouth of a torrent. It is a natural harbor that forms a pleasant and natural environment. It is a residential and tourist beach surrounded by dry dock huts in the rocky areas.
- Cala Bassa. A beautiful beach surrounded by pines and junipers, white sands and crystal clear waters. Its Mediterranean spirit overlooking the bay of San Antonio gathers both tourists and residents and is accessible to all types of public.
- Platges de Comte. This set or chain of beaches interspersed by sets of rocks, are in front of different islets of various sizes creating unique views. They make up a great tourist attraction for its white sands and crystal clear waters, is considered one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world.
- Cala Codolar. Quiet and relaxing. This small beach is composed of “Còdols” or boulders, round-shaped rock fragments created by the erosion of the sea and land.
- Cala Tarida. The longest and most extensive beach on the west coast. It is characterized by its variety in the landscape, by rocks and islets that differentiate several stretches of this family beach. It is worth mentioning that it is protected by the different hills of the area, sheltering it from the wind.
- Cala Molí. Characterized by boulders and rocks, this small beach of clear waters is kept away from the crowds. Perfect for observing the marine life and the different caves that surround it.
- Cala Vadella. This beach gives its name to a small locality located in the town of San José. The tourism that characterizes this place is familiar, due to the protection of its bay by the rocks it forms a wide and sandy beach, with shallow and very calm waters.
- Cala Carbó. Very close to the previous beach, this is a small sheltered beach surrounded by rocky hills with pine trees, so it usually has calm waters. This beach is characterized by the combination of sand and pebbles.
- Cala d'Hort. A charming beach from where you can enjoy the views towards the magical nature reserve of Es Vedrà. This beach is formed by fine sand on one side and rocks at the other end. It is located at the end of a steep slope as it is protected by a cliff.
All these places can be accessed by land with any vehicle and also by sea. This second option allows you to enjoy the most hidden corners and idyllic landscapes that you would not want to miss.
