THE MAGICAL NATURE RESERVE OF ES VEDRÀ

Es Vedrà is an islet that belongs to the Balearic Islands and is very close to the island of Ibiza, less than 2km from its coast. In addition, it is part of the Natural Reserve of Es Vedrà, Es Vedranell and Illots de Ponent, a protection figure that prohibits the visit of the general public. It is also part of Red Natura 2000 for its recognition as a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA).

With almost 400 meters high and 80 hectares of limestone rock, this islet sponsors the best sunsets of the island. Located on the southwest coast of Ibiza, it sponsors wonderful views from the Pitiusa island. Undoubtedly, it is a must when visiting Ibiza.

Many tourists and locals flock to Es Vedrà to admire this captivating and emblematic place. The beach of Cala d'Hort is located in front of this magnificent islet, it is mainly from there that you can enjoy its views. On the other hand, there are many viewpoints around the coast that allow you to have a complete view of the islet. The viewpoint of the Torre de Es Savinar, an old defensive tower built in 1756 is the closest point to the islet.

Another way to get to know and see this islet from another perspective is through the boat excursions of Capitán Nemo. Where you can go around the islet and even get to touch this islet. You can also visit the Pedrera de Cala d'Hort (Atlantis) on a cliff on which rises the Tower of Es Savinar. It was from where the stone was extracted to build the wall of Ibiza in the 16th century.

Rising from the sea Es Vedrà conveys a sense of peace and joy, so many take the opportunity to meditate and perform various relaxation practices in front of this islet, which for many is sacred.

It should be noted that there are many stories, myths and legends about Es Vedrà. Among these stories is that it is one of the most magnetic spots on Earth. That is why many take the opportunity to go and "recharge energies". Since ancient times and Greek mythology it was thought that this was a place of mermaids that attracted sailors making them shipwrecked. It is also said to be the birthplace of the goddess Tanit, introduced by the Phoenician occupants of the island.

This islet has inspired numerous artists from different disciplines, such as painters, writers, filmmakers, musicians, etc. It was the story of Father Francisco Palau who filled this islet with history and cultural heritage. A Carmelite who lived in exile during the second half of the 19th century. His biography explained different visions and paranormal experiences that he lived on this island, as many claimed to have seen things alien to reality.

Finally, it is important to note that Es Vedrà has a very rich fauna and flora, with endemism of great ecological value. This islet has also been used as a corral to keep livestock, which is why man introduced feral goats in Es Vedrà. It was in the 80's when they were eliminated from this place because they caused a strong impact on the plant communities of the nature reserve. This case gave rise to new stories and legends.
